In a continued effort to provide our residents with timely notifications and information regarding public safety issues and alerts Berkeley Township has initiated the Nixle notification system.

Once registered, users will receive pertinent information via text messaging or personal email. This system is used by thousands of government agencies throughout the country and is a proven secure method of effective public notification.

Mayor Carmen Amato has established an account for the Township Government. Residents should subscribe to obtain important (non police related) Berkeley Township information. Examples of these notification would be events occurring within the township, Hurricane Sandy related meeting, along with any relevant township information.

The Berkeley Township Police Department has established an account that will deal more specifically with Police related incidents. Examples of these notifications include, Amber Alerts, Silver Alerts, BOLO messages, road closing and major traffic issues.
Residents who are interested in these notifications are asked to go to http://www.nixle.com and register as a user. Technical questions are to be directed to the Nixle support team who will promptly address any concerns. Once registration is complete you will start receiving these notifications. This system allows you to control how, where and what type of information you wish to receive and also allows you to control the frequency you receive these messages. This is a free service. There are also smart phone apps available on Android and iPhone devices for this service.

Users can register for several different agencies at no cost. Residents are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this system and utilize its many features.
